I am not naturally a morning person. Growing up I was the one who stayed up late watching old black and white movies that a kid my age wouldn't normally be interested in: that resulted in my reluctance to get up and moving any time before 11 o'clock. With my marriage and subsequent births of eight boys, that natural tendency has had to change the HARD way. You cannot be a night owl and get up for hourly nursing sessions, then function as a zombie for the rest of the day. That being said, more than one sunrise has greeted me over the years.
I haven't always appreciated the sunrise. Frankly, I don't want to be up that early. Unless I have had a few cups of hot coffee, I am barely able to go through the motions of doing things that awake people do, let alone look out at the sunrise and appreciate it's beauty.
What has changed that view? God has. There are many scriptures in the word that refer to the morning. One that comes to mind first off is in Psalm 5:1-3:
Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my groaning. Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
How many times over the years have I been up early with a little one and been praying, crying out to the Lord. I can be assured that He hears me, just as the above scriptures state, in the morning you hear my voice, in the morning, I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. Watch for what? I believe the answer comes further down in the Psalm. In verse 11-12 it says:
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
God covers us with favor as with a shield! What an awesome promise to hold on to especially in these uncertain times. I know myself, I can get off track easily and start worrying and complaining about our current circumstances. It's in those early morning hours when all in quiet in the house, when there aren't any distractions or noise to shut out the voice of the Lord to my heart, that I hear Him speak so tenderly, so lovingly and so encouragingly. So be encouraged dear one, and trust that the Lord does indeed hear your prayers and no matter what happened yesterday, no matter what mistakes were made, what seemingly overwhelming failure the past holds. Remember that in Lamentations 3:22-25 God says:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
to the soul who seeks him.
Have a blessed day.
